Welcome to the Martial Arts Journey RUclips channel!
My name is Rokas. I'm a Lithuanian guy who trained Aikido for 14 years, 7 of them running a professional Aikido Dojo until eventually I realized that Aikido does not live up to what it promises.
Lead by this realization I decided to make a daring step to close my Aikido Dojo and move to Portland, Oregon for six months to start training MMA at the famous Straight Blast Gym Headquarters under head coach Matt Thornton.
After six months intensive training I had my first amateur MMA fight after which I moved back to Lithuania. During all ...

Although I am strictly karate. The hardware just was removed 6 months ago due to infection because I couldn't stop kicking a bag. I now have holes in my leg and replace knee all hardware removed. A cone put on the lower part of the leg due to the lack of rigidity. The holes from the screws never heal over in the bone. If I kick somebody with this knee or the shin my leg will shatter. I'm 59. Still sucks. My body is my weapon. And I'm not fully loaded

That's a crazy injury and such a long road to recovery. I had 2 injuries from JJ, and still feel them years later ( not anything like you) but I had to get out of it. Friends tell me about all the ways to roll safe and this and that, but it just takes that one person going full force and f*cks you up forever

it just shows, that no matter how long you have trained for, what level black belt you are. when shit hits the fan, you mentally forget everything. the fact that a number of them simply ignored physically stopping the arm with the weapon, and went for a fully physical hug and really didnt even try to move into position for the single arm that controls the weapon is alarming

Never give up my friend, things are not forever. A pro boxer broke his spine and recovered when no one thought he could ever box again, and he came back to prove he is the one who has the final say. I can't recall the name of the pro boxer but he's extremely popular in the internet and RUclips so it should be easy to find.

Unfortunately Aikido itself is useless in MMA and street fights unless your enemy is also trained in Aikido and is willing walking into your moves and helping you kick his ass. It sure looks cool when steven seagul does it in the movies though =). You're style looks great, you've come a long way. Must be great having holds and striking in y our kit.

I trained in BJJ and MMA years ago and saw a dude break his ankle while practicing MT round kicks. Similar deal where nobody helped or knew what do to, including the instructor. The poor guy limped to his car and drove off. Honestly, I came to the conclusion that recreational martial arts aren’t worth the risk and gave it up. At least not “serious” training. I had too many close calls with over zealous partners twisting and pulling and jerking on my joints and neck. No thanks. At some point it wasn’t fun anymore and felt very unnecessary for fitness or even for self defense.

BJJ should never have separated itself from Judo. Kani-basami has been illegal in judo competitions since 1991 (almost 100 years to late) And it's not a good throw. When you analyze the throw; even if successful and not breaking your opponents leg like some Cobra Kai Jackass. It leaves you in a lousy position for continued ground work. Also you're at 90 degrees which means if you are on a 50/50 situation so the faster, stronger fighter wins. Not the more technically precise.

I dislocated my wrist during a roll, most mundane thing ever as I just fell flat on my butt with my hands under me to catch my weight. Turns out, tearing all the ligaments in your wrist is very bad. A year later and I still cannot get my hand even close to flat on the ground and cannot really activate my inner forearm, and it always hurts. It will just be this way forever now 🎉🎉 The most frustrating things are A) this was not the result of a spazzy or high impact move. Literally just fell like I have 10000 times and B) my quality of life will never be the same. I’m still back and rolling and lifting but I’ll never be the same. Overall fitness forever lower
